Kurta Pyjama is one of the basic clothing of the Indian men. This outfit consists of two pieces of matching garments(usually). The first garment is a kurta that is kind of a long shirt that almost touches the knees.  The second one is the pajama or pyjama, which is a lightweight trouser. This outfit is worn on formal occasions and can also be worn casually. Infact, there are many Indian men who prefer wearing it as a sleepwear. I am talking about punjabi kurta-pyjama in this article which i wear.

HISTORY OF KURTA PYJAMA

The term ‘pyjama’ crept into the English language from Hindustani, a language from which Urdu and Hindi originated. The word originally derives from the Persian word ‘Payjama’ meaning ‘leg garment’. It was due to the British colonialization of India that the term ‘pajama’ and the dress spread to other parts of the world. In India, one will often find politicians wearing white starched Kurta Pajama. As a tradition, civilians wear this dress during festivities and other special occasions like holi, religious ceremony, etc. Punjabi kurta pyjama is common among people in punjab and pakistan.

 

TYPES OF FABRICS

Only soft material fabrics are used for making kurta pajama as it is supposed to be a comfortable loose fitting dress. Though good quality cotton is the most common material used for making kurta pajama, other fabrics like silk and satin are also used. All styles, wheteher it is punjabi kurta pyjama or some other cultures are made form these fabrics.

Normally adults prefer wearing the kurta and pajama in neutral shades, as they give a very dignified look. Children, on the other hand, wear this dress in varied hues and patterns. Punjabi jutti and Kolhapuri chappals are the most preferred footwear for this type of attire.

The kurta pyjama is the first image that comes to mind when thinking of a typical Indian man in indian ethnic wear. This outfit is worn in many countries of Asia namely India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. This garment has gained a reputation of being an Indian ethnic garment.

DIFFERENT WAYS TO WEAR KURTA-PYJAMA:

1. FESTIVAL STYLE KURTA PYJAMA:

You can layer a waistcoat on a kurta-pyjama to get a complete festive look. This layering surely provides a mature and decent look. I usually prefer it because i love being comfortable in clothes and so i avoid tight outfits. Just give it a try once and i am sure you will get positive feedback.

You can try a black or a brown waistcoat and a matching punjabi jutti with it. This new look will give you sense of coolness. It makes an ethnic wear slightly more ethnic. Punjabi jutti does porvide a desi look and i am sure some of you love desi look.

2. LAYERING LEATHER JACKET WITH KURTA PYJAMA:

 

This look depicts an urban image of a person. The leather jacket layering does provide a cool look if you are Kurta pyjama lover. In winter season this outfit will protect you from cold winds and  provide stylish at the same time.

You can wear brown or black leather jacket along with matching leather loafers or punjabi jutti. This will make you stand apart from the crowd and i hope you become the center of attraction. Only negligible people are aware of this stylish look and this gives you a upper hand.

3. STYLISH HOOD OR SWEATSHIRT:

You can also layer hood or sweatshirt with kurta pyjama. This can combine with punjabi jutti to give a complete stylish look. Just give it a try once and feel the change.
